Original Style Returns to Gough

Original Style, the tile marque of Westcountry producer Stovax Ltd, has returned to conveying specialist Gough & Co (Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, England) with whom it worked some ten years ago when the company was first getting established.

Conveying finished or unfinished ceramics within a manufacturing facility requires specialised knowledge and the Original Style Production Director, Chris Cooney, decided to engage Gough for its knowledge of materials handling and processing equipment.

Overhead conveyors are used in the bisque and glazing departments, transferring products 100 metres through a variety of processes, including glazing, quality selection and several firings of the tiles.

One area of production that required assistance - in order to satisfy sales increases - was the transference of finished product to quality selection/packaging. Previously, the tiles had been transported by means of a manual system, presenting more than one problem, including slowness and breakages.

Gough was contracted to extend the existing system into the new packaging section and exact calculations were required to ensure that the circuit of the conveyor was complete. Chris Cooney commented: "Gough were selected for the quality of the product and its reliability. Original Style purchased Gough overhead conveyors more than 10 years ago when the company was in its infancy and they have been reliable since".
