Chair Appointed for Globalization Task Force

Dr Kathryn Logan, President of the American Ceramic Society (ACerS), has announced the appointment of Dr David Pye (Dean Emeritus, NY State College of Ceramics at Alfred University) to the newly created position of Chair, The International Globalization Task Force.

The Task Force, to be comprised of members throughout the world, has been established by ACerS to recommend and prioritise actions where global collaborations may lead to increased benefits and value to arts, science, technology and applications of ceramics in the international ceramic and glass communities.

"We are pleased that Dr Pye has agreed to accept this assignment," said Kathryn Logan. "He brings exceptional enthusiasm, insight and experience to this assignment."

David Pye earned a BS and a PhD in Ceramics from Alfred University and has done graduate work at the University of Rochester. ACerS said that his having being involved with international educational, research and industrial programs for several decades, he was well qualified for this appointment. He has served as Director of the Study Abroad Program of the College of Ceramics and has convened international conferences on the physics and chemistry of glass at Cambridge University, England, the United Nations University in Japan and, most recently, in Bad Soden, Germany.

A past member of the ACerS Board of Directors, David Pye has also served as President of the International Commission on Glass and he is an honorary member of the German Society of Glass Technology, an honorary fellow of the British Society of Glass Technology and a member of the World Academy of Ceramics.
