Johnson Matthey Announces Retirement of Director and Board Changes


Johnson Matthey PLC announced on 3 April 2002 that Graham Titcombe will retire as a director of the company on 24 September 2002 after 42 years' service, including 12 years as a main board director.

Having held a succession of senior management positions with the company in both the UK and overseas, Mr Titcombe was appointed as an Executive Director of JM in November 1990. He was appointed Managing Director, Precious Metals and Catalytic Systems in March 1994 and Managing Director, Precious Metals Division in September 1995. In January 1999 he was appointed Group Managing Director, reflecting his role as the company's senior operational executive director with both Precious Metals Division and Colours & Coatings Division reporting to him.

With effect from 1 August 2002, Neil Carson will take over board level responsibility for Precious Metals Division in addition to his current responsibility for Catalysts & Chemicals Division. Also with effect from 1 August 2002, David Morgan will assume board responsibility for Colours & Coatings Division and the company's Central Research activities.

Commenting on Graham Titcombe's retirement, JM Chairman Michael Miles said: "Graham has made a major contribution to Johnson Matthey during his long and distinguished career with the company. On behalf of the board I would like to thank him for all his hard work and wish him the very best for a long and happy retirement".
