Ceramitec 2003 Workshops on Sintering and PIM

Two workshops - one on 'Modern Sintering Processes' and one on 'Powder
Injection Moulding' - will be held during the Ceramitec 2003 exhibition,
taking place at the New Munich Trade Fair Centre from 16-20 September 2003.

Organiser Messe München says that further improvements in the areas of
properties and cost savings can be expected from new manufacturing processes
such as metal powder injection moulding - more and more established in
recent years - and from the testing of modern sintering processes such as
microwave sintering.

PIM is already used for components in a wide range of fields such as
automotive, chemical, aviation, office machines, medical technology,
computers, jewellery sectors (e.g. watch housings of ceramic or hardmetal)
and high volume consumer articles (e.g. small gearwheels in electric
toothbrushes). In 2000, parts with a value of over 700 million euro were
produced using PIM. Annual growth rates of between 10% and 25% are
expected. A turnover of 1 billion euro is expected for 2003 and this figure
is predicted to double by 2008.

Injection moulded PM parts of various materials will be on view on a joint
stand of the German Ceramic Society (DKG) and the Fachverband
Pulvermetallurgie.
