Brick Association in USA Upgrades Strategic Planning & Government Outreach Capabilities

The USA's Brick Industry Association (Reston, Virginia) announced on 16 April 2003 that it had established, and filled, two new positions aiming to advance and safeguard the interests of the American brick industry.

Kathleen Curtis was named Vice President, responsible for strategic planning, education programming, human resources and website enhancement to aid in more effective management of BIA business and communications. Joseph Casper was named Vice President, responsible for government policy in the areas of environment, health and safety.

Both appointees come from Point-Of-Purchase Advertising International (POPAI) in Washington. Kathleen Curtis, possessing extensive experience in the not-for-profit world, graduated from Marquette University and received her Master's Degree from Northwestern's Kellogg School of Business. Joseph Casper, a veteran of the previous Bush and Reagan administrations, is a graduate of Georgetown University and earned his Master's Degree in Business from Johns Hopkins.

In making the appointments, BIA President, Dick Jennison, commented: "We've upgraded our staff in order to better support the aggressive new mission of the association. That mission is to promote clay brick, with the goal of increasing its market share, and to safeguard the clay brick industry. In the past, our role was primarily technical.

"Kathy will spearhead the strategic planning for this $3 million association; Joe will fortify BIA's efforts in communicating with legislative and regulatory bodies in both Washington, D.C. and in the states."
