New Retsch Planetary Ball Mill Options

Planetary ball mills from Retsch GmbH (Haan, Germany) are said by the company to be characterised by excellent performance, versatility, safety and simple operation. They are not only tools for mixing and grinding solids down to the submicron range but are also frequently used for colloidal grinding and mechanical alloying. The PM series comprises two bench-top models with one and two grinding stations and the floor model PM 400 with four grinding stations.

The new PM 400 is claimed to be a real powerhouse. A selectable speed range from 30rpm to 400rpm in combination with an effective sun wheel diameter of 300mm guarantees a high energy input and therefore analytical fineness in a very short time.

The new model now offers an even greater range of applications, operating comfort and safety:

· Programmable starting time – As the starting time of the grinding job can be programmed in advance, overnight processing is no longer a problem.

· Power failure back-up – If there should be a power cut during operation, the PM 400 will save all parameters up to that point, including the remaining grinding time. Without this information the sample would have to be rejected and the whole grinding process started again.

· New operating concept - All grinding parameters can be set via one single button; the current settings can be read off a graphics display. For the PM 400, up to 10 parameter combinations can be stored.

The easily accessible grinding chamber of the PM 400 is acoustically insulated and equipped with a powerful fan which also cools the grinding jars. The 'comfort' grinding jars are perfectly dust-tight, easy to handle and come in seven sizes and six different materials.
