Find out where our refractories experts will be speaking in 2011.

Unitecr 2011 - United International Technical Conference on Refractories, Kyoto, Japan - 30 October - 2 November 2011

Dr. Paul Myers will be presenting the following papers:

‘Cryogenic Processing of Refractory Articles; Development, Experiences and Applications’

Abstract:

Early work around cryogenic forming technologies was first undertaken during the 1960s. Such technologies offer considerable advantages for the production of refractory and advanced ceramic products. The ice crystals formed during processing create a unique microstructure that offers an improved resistance to thermal shock in any given formulation. Nano sized particles used within these type of formulations improve the ceramic bonding in the fired product, which manifests itself as improved mechanical properties, better resistance to creep and superior corrosion resistance.  Applications and how the benefits of this technology can be exploited will be explored by the author in this paper.

‘Pro-active Insurance Measures in Refractory Supply and Sourcing’

Abstract:
This paper will explore various insurance policies and strategies that can be applied to the supply and management of refractories materials. The author will explore how application specific testing and simulative testing can be used to select refractory products for given applications. Furthermore he will discuss the limitations of this approach linked to small sample populations. The concept of technical plant audits as proactive insurance or acceptance criteria are investigated with benefits to quality assurance, commercial issues and management systems. Case studies detailed illustrate the cost benefits of such approaches.
