Bioglass/Bioceramic Controlled Release Technology

Ceram is a world leader in developing bioglasses and bioceramics for use as carriers for a variety of active ingredients.  This new technology, which is an alternative to polymer delivery systems, has many advantages and has been successfully used in agriculture and other applications. We have now developed a range of bioglasses and bioceramics for drug delivery systems, including the targeting of drugs, super long-life drugs, smart drugs, etc.

At Ceram, we are currently working on a number of controlled release technologies, using ceramics and glass as active ingredient carriers, for the manufacturers of consumer healthcare products, medical devices and pharmaceuticals.

Our materials experts are currently working on a range of projects covering:

  • Design of bioglass and bioceramic drug delivery systems which allow the effective targeted delivery dosage of products, ranging from inorganic and organic molecules of different size and properties, to be controlled
  • Client bespoke formulations for specific applications, including the controlled release of pharmaceutical active compounds, such as vitamins, antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs, and also the enabling of sequential, and time and site well-ordered, delivery of multiple agents
  • Characterization to monitor and evaluate controlled released (from hours to days, even, to months)
  • Contract R&D.

The bioglasses and bioceramics we are developing offer superior properties in many respects compared to polymers: better biocompatibility, more stable nano-structure, more uniform biodegradability. Additionally, the combination of more uniform biodegradability and selected polymers enables the development of ‘smart’ hybrid materials with improved properties which can fulfill more demanding complex delivery challenges.

Why choose Ceram?

  • Thanks to our knowledge of controlled release technologies we can provide our clients with tailored systems to develop novel products and improve existing ones.
  • Ceram has state-of-the-art analytical, testing and characterisation facilities available in-house
  • Our experts comprise a highly qualified team of scientists, consultants and other materials experts with many years of acquired industrial and practical experience in this field.
