ETAG 004 Guideline for European Technical Approval of External Thermal Insulation Composite Systems with Rendering

The ETAG 004 guideline sets out the performance requirements of External Thermal Insulation Composite Systems to demonstrate 'Fitness for Purpose'. The guideline addresses the essential requirements of the Construction Products Directive (CPD):

  • Mechanical resistance and stability
  • Safety in case of fire
  • Hygiene, health and the environment
  • Safety in use
  • Protection against noise
  • Energy economy and heat retention
  • Aspects of durability and serviceability.

ETAG 004 specifies complete system and component (insulation, anchors, profiles and their fixings, render and reinforcement) tests; assessments can provide the manufacturer with the opportunity to CE mark their systems.

Ceram is UKAS accredited to ISO 17025 and able to conduct the tests required to demonstrate system and component 'Fitness for Purpose'.

Within the structures laboratory, Ceram has fully compliant hygrothermal performance testing rigs. The rigs enable testing to ETAG 004, M.O.A.T. 22 and bespoke testing of walling systems developed as Modern Methods of Construction, or to meet the Green Deal requirements.
