A major international sanitaryware manufacturer having manufacturing plants
in many countries worldwide.
The Project
To advise the client of viable sources of ceramic raw materials to support
a proposed new sanitaryware plant to be constructed close to Moscow.
The Objective
- To identify and evaluate potential sources of raw materials in western
Russia and the Ukraine.
- To obtain technical specifications & pricing information from
potential suppliers.
The Approach
- A search was made using the internet, CERAM's Information Centre
and personal contacts to identify potential suppliers of ball clays,
kaolins, feldspars, silica, zircon, whiting & zinc oxide within
800km of the proposed factory site.
- A materials expert from CERAM Consulting Group visited twelve material
suppliers during a 2 week visit to Russia and the Ukraine.
- Samples of potentially suitable materials were collected and relevant
physical and chemical properties were tested in CERAM's UKAS accredited
testing facility.
- Technical specifications of all materials were reviewed and advice
was given on their suitability for sanitaryware manufacture.
The Result
- Over 40 suppliers of all types of ceramic raw material were identified
and full details of their product ranges & contact information were
obtained.
- Detailed evaluations were made of the mining and processing operations
of selected suppliers during the 2 week visit.
- Following the independent material property testing at CERAM, expert
advice was provided on the technical suitability of each material and
a possible body formulation with identified suppliers was suggested.
This project has provided the client with detailed and expert advice
on the raw material options for a sanitaryware plant in the Moscow area.
