    Salary c £20,000

    Initial appointments will be for 12 months, working on the development of specific market offerings in these areas.  Subsequent career prospects will depend upon performance, but successful candidates can expect to take leading roles in the commercialisation of these business offerings.  We are looking for those with a nose and a flair for business, alongside their technical talents.  Client contact and travel will be a feature of all roles. Outgoing personality and good communications skills are a must.

    Consultants: Material Science - Characterisation & Measurement

    Two Opportunities

    We have two opportunities to join our expanding team of Consultants in our Testing and Characterisation Group.  Working in a number of industries, you will develop an understanding of the role of materials in industrial applications and will work on the development of suitable (often novel) methods of characterisation for performance measurement.

    CERAM plays a key role for industry in product development, conformity evaluation and assessment of fitness-for-purpose.  As new, sustainable materials are required and developed, so the importance of this role increases.  You will join this growing team and bring additional expertise and insight to ensure CERAM maximise this opportunity and to bring value to our clients.

    Position 1 -  you will be a graduate, ideally with further, post-graduate experience and knowledge of the key issues relating to the properties of materials in high thermal energy application industries.

    Position 2 -  you will have a degree, probably in Chemistry or Forensic Science, and will have a strong interest in the application of analytical and forensic discipline to the measurement of industrial applications - in the first instance volatiles in paints and textiles.

    In both roles, you will have passion for the subject and a real belief in our ability to tackle the challenges of the 21st century through innovation. You will have a strong desire to bring this knowledge to bear for clients and to win business for CERAM.


    Consultants: Sustainability in the Built Environment

    Two Opportunities

    We have two opportunities to join our expanding team of Consultants for the Construction industry, both to research and to consult for clients on all aspects of sustainability in the built environment. Greenhouse gas emissions associated with housing, offices and public buildings account for more than a third of the total emissions produced by the UK and are therefore a key focus for reduction by government and the private sector in pursuit of committed carbon reduction targets.

    CERAM plays a key role for the Construction industry in product development, conformity evaluation and structural assessment for fitness-for-purpose. As new, sustainable solutions are developed, so the importance of this role increases. You will join this growing team and bring additional expertise and insight to ensure CERAM maximise this opportunity and to bring value to our clients.

    Position 1 - you will be a recent graduate with knowledge of the key issues relating to sustainability in the built environment and climate change.

    Position 2 -  you will have a degree in a in a relevant material science or engineering discipline and will have further post-graduate experience - academic or industrial -  relating to sustainability and climate change issues.

    Consultant: Water Footprinting

    An exciting opportunity exists to join our team and to help CERAM take the lead in the emerging science of water footprinting.

    Water is already a scarce and valuable resource a situation that will intensify under the impacts of climate change.  CERAM is committed to assisting our clients and industrial partners fully to understand their current and projected demand for water and then to find innovative solutions to reduce it.

    You will have a recent degree in a relevant scientific discipline and may have further post-graduate experience either in academia or industry. You will have a strong vision of the future importance of water as a resource and be passionate about our ability to tackle this issue effectively through knowledge and innovation. You will be creative and will embrace the opportunity to work in an emerging field with few existing rules and conventions. You will be motivated not only to build clarity and knowledge but also to create real commercial business opportunities for CERAM and for our partners.


    Consultant: Medical Device Technology

    An exciting opportunity exists to join our rapidly expanding team of Consultants for the Medical Devices industry.

    The role of materials and materials science in driving innovation in implantable medical devices is growing in importance as knowledge expands and the aging population places more demands on surgical intervention to support sustained quality of life.

    Our team of experienced consultants work closely with leading global businesses in this sector to assist them to develop new products and to overcome challenges.

    You will hold a recent post-graduate degree in a relevant materials science or engineering subject and have demonstrated knowledge of the materials challenges facing the medical devices sector. You will be passionate about our role in facilitating innovation and strongly motivated not only to create and prove new insights, but to use them to win business for CERAM within our expanding global client base.


    Technical Sales Correspondent

    Reporting to the Director of Sales, the Technical Sales Correspondent provides technical and commercial support to both our Sales Team and our clients. However, you would also manage the business relationship with your own nominated clients, working in a small, but busy and IT-enabled Sales Admin department. You will take responsibility for:

    Working with the Sales Team and reviewing non-standard sales enquiries to recommend laboratory tests and analytical work that meet the needs of the client;
    Resolving client queries about their tests and the results, arising post-delivery;
    Carrying out follow-ups with clients up to ensure customer satisfaction and repeat business;
    Maximizing revenues and gross margin for a list of nominated client accounts.

    From time to time you may be asked to undertake commercial projects such as management of sub-contract services, and client analysis and categorisation.

    Qualifications / knowledge / experience needed for job:

    You will have a University degree in Chemistry, Physics or Material Science the aptitude to quickly gain a detailed understanding of CERAM chemical testing methods and instrumentation. A head for business with a good appreciation of costs and the true value to clients of the service we provide.  You need to work well with our own scientific staff, Sales and Marketing Teams as well as clients, so good teamworking and social skills are important.

    Your IT skills should include MS Office suite and familiarity with LIMS.
